Teal Party Makeup with Glitter

I just love this simple teal makeup look.  It just glams everything up and it won't take you forever to create it.  There are a lot of product involved but the technique is simple.   Here are the easy how to steps:

How to get the look.....
Eyes:  MAC Steamy eyeshadow all over the lid and blended up towards the brow bone.  Start by patting your color in first so that you get a concentrated amount for extra pow!
MAC Kid eyeshadow lightly in the crease to blend out the line and to deepen the crease.
MAC Shroom eyeshadow just under the brow.
MAC Fluideline in Blacktrak for the liner and make it thick and winged out.
Urban Decay 24/7 glide pencil in Graffiti along the lower lash line.
Top the Graffiti color with MAC Steamy eyeshadow.
MAC Surreal eyeshadow in the inner corner and around the tear duct.
NYX Candy Glitter Liner in Jade along the lower lash line.  Do a few coats to get more sparkle.
Select Lash S42 lashes.

Cheeks: Coastal Scents blush palette- 3rd one from top, a bright pink with a hint of shimmer.

Lips: NYX Mega Shine lip gloss in Dolly Pink.

Where to buy.....

NYX Cosmetics
Urban Decay

Teen Makeovers - Kelsey's Monochromatic Look

For Kelsey we did a monochromatic look that is perfect for daytime.  Monochromatic just means that it's the same color family from eyes and cheeks, to lips.  Kelsey has blue eyes and fair skin so a color tinted from the orange family of colors look amazing and make her blue eyes pop.  With accessories like that blue flower and peacock inspired earrings she is wearing compliment her eyes even more.

To get Kelseys monochromatic look....

Eyes:
Urban Decay Chopper eyeshadow all over the lid, crease and lower lash line.  This color looks amazing on blue eyes.
Urban Decay Foxy eyeshadow on the brow bone.  (Both Urban Decay colors are from the Naked 2 Palette)
Make Up Forever Aqua eyeliner in Black.
L'Oreal Voluminous mascara in Very Black.

Cheeks:
MAC Cosmetics blush in Melba.

Lips:
MAC Cosmetics lipstick in Mocha.

Hair...

Kelsey's hair already had curl to it and it was coarse.  So I took a very hot 1" iron to it to define her natural  curls a little bit more.  Then I seperated each peice.  Hairspray wasn't even needed her hair kept a curl so well!

Prom Makeup and Hair for Bright Colored Dresses

If you opt for a bright color dress, try matching the pop color on your lips.  This looks amazing with spring trends like fuchsia, coral, and berry.  When you do a bright lip, try to tone down your eyes to let your lips shine and not look like your putting on too much makeup.

To get this look....
Eyes: Urban Decay YDK eyeshadow in a smokey eye effect and on the lower lash line.
Urban Decay Bootycall eyeshadow just on the brow bone.
Make Up Forever Aqua Eyes eyeliner in Black and wing it out.
L'Oreal Voluminous Mascara in Carbon Black

Cheeks:
MAC Cosmetics blush in Smile.

Lips:
NYX Round Lipstick in Chloe.

For the Hair...
I used a 3/4" curling iron with Sebastian Shine and Define Setting Spray.  I curled away from the face in sections.  Then combed through the hair with my fingers to soften up the look.  I finished with Sebastian medium hold hairspray.

Where to buy....
L'Oreal - Drugstores everywhere

Teen Makeovers - Tabitha's Easy Natural Look

When it comes to Teen Makeup less is more.  It really doesn't take a lot to make a big impact.  With Tabitha's look we kept it soft and natural.  She has beautiful skin, and just needed a little bit of concealing under the eyes.

To get the look....

Prep:
Make Up Forever All Mat Primer on the face to keep oily skin at bay.
MAC Cosmetics Paint Pot in Painterly on the lids.

Face:
Make Up Forever HD Foundation in 118 mixed with a little bit of an oil free lotion to become more of a tinted moisturizer. (Budget substitute: Revlon Photo Ready Foundation)
Mary Kay Concealer in Ivory 2 just under the eyes to cover dark circles.  I use a fluffy brush to buff out the concealer and make it look more airbrushed.

Eyes:
Urban Decay Busted eyeshadow all over the lid just to the crease with a domed eyeshadow brush. (Found in the Naked2 palette)
Make Up Forever Aqua Eyes eyeliner in black just to darken the lash line. (Any black eyeliner will do.)
Maybelline Great Lash mascara in Black.

Brows:
Filled in with MAC Cosmetics eyeshadow in Espresso with a small angled brush. (Any matte eyeshadow in your hair color)

Cheeks:
MAC Cosmetics blush in Melba. (A peachy color)

Lips:
MAC Cosmetics lipstick in High Tea. (Sheer beige)

To get the hairstyle....

Tabitha has dry and slightly coarse hair so I softened it up with a smoothing cream like Kerastase Lumiere Nutri-sculpt.  Then I just ran a 1" straightening iron to make the hair smooth and tame fly aways.  Finish with a light holding spray and a little embellishment on the side.
*Tip:  Anchor the clip on the side by criss crossing two bobby pins and then place the flower clip over that.

Where to buy...

Maybeline - at drugstores everywhere
Kerastase - Found at high end salons

Prep:
Urban Decay Primer Potion on eyelids.
Follow with MAC Cosmetics Paint Pot in Soft Ochre.
For the face use Make Up Forever All Mat Primer.

Eyes:
Urban Decay eyeshadow in Chopper all over the lid and around the tear duct.
Urban Decay eyeshadow in Foxy on the brow bone.
Makeup Forever Aqua Eyes eyeliner in black tight lined in the upper eyelid only.
Loreal Voluminous mascara in Carbon Black.

Cheeks:
Mary Kay blush in Citrus Bloom.

Lips:
MAC Cosmetics lipstick in Pink Nouveau.

For the hair....

Use a 1" curling iron and curl in sections no larger then 1".  Using a setting spray, curl the entire head of hair then separate each curl to give it life.  Spray with a medium hold hair spray.  Finish off with a cute headband or accessory of choice.  To see a video on how to curl your hair click here.

St. Patty's Day Inspired Makeup

In the spirit of St. Patty's day I thought I would create a look for you in all it's green glory!  It's about the only time of year that truly you can make it work.  So you should go for it.  Dress up this look for a party with green glitter or sparkles on your face.  Everything for this look can be found at your local mall or at Ulta.

To get the look.....
Eyes:
1.From the NYX Runway Collection in Secret World use the lightest green all over the lid, really patting in the color for the most saturation.
2. Take the other green from the same collection and put that in your crease and outer corner of the eye with a blending brush.  Softy blend up towards the brown bone.
3.To deepen the crease I used MAC Cosmetics Humid in the outer V and brought slightly into the crease.
4. Blend sharp edges with a clean blending brush.
5. Use the soft beige color in the collection on the brow bone.
6. Line heavily with a dark green pencil liner.  I used MAC eyeliner in Tarnish on the top and in the waterline.  Black will do the trick too.
7.Bring the Humid shadow in the lower lash line on the outer part and use the light green color you used on the lid to the lower lash line around the tear duct area.
8. Finish with Red Cherry #41 lashes and mascara.

Cheeks:
MAC blush in Dainty

Lips:
MAC Shy Girl lipstick and Subculture lipliner.

And that's it!  Happy St. Patty's day everyone!  I hope you have a fun and safe evening!

Where to buy.....
NYX Cosmetics at www.ulta.com and in stores.

The Z Palette - Brand Review

As many of you may have figured out I have a weee bit of an addiction to makeup.  Especially to MAC.  I had palettes upon palettes of MAC Cosmetics 15 pan eyeshadow palettes and they just kept on stacking up.  Not to mention my blush habit.  Ugh.

When I heard about the Z Palette, created by Makeup Artist Zena Shteysel, I just knew this would solve many of my issues with having just too much, without having to sacrifice one single shadow.  Z Palettes don't have any separators in the palette, allowing much more room.  And allowing different size and shape pans to go together in one place.

Another great feature is the see thru window so that you can see what color palette you have without having to write on it.  I also love that it is magnetized, and eco friendly.  And the super cute prints are to die for.  Zebra, hot pink, cheetah, you can't go wrong.

I choose the Black Pro Palettes.  The Pro palette gives you just a little more space and room for a brush if you choose.  As you can see in mine, I have 4 rows of MAC eyeshadows and one small row of a few Mary Kay shadows I had.  They were the only ones that would fit in that small space.  But, hey, I got a packed palette.  The MAC palette only held 15, now with the Z Palette I have 28 in one palette.

I also love that I can fit these palettes perfectly in a makeup bag that I got from www.wholesaleaccessorymarket.com (shown in top pic).  I can get 8 of them in there nice and tight and they won't float around in my makeup kit.

They are a bit spendy.  $28 each for the Pro, $20 for the large, $14 for the small.  But well worth the investment for a life of simplicity.   Check them out www.zpalette.com.

Get the Look - The Vintage Bride

One of my favorite bridal trends that seems to be sticking around is the Vintage Bride.  The vintage bridal look is fairly easy to do if you can master the application of bold red lips and winged out eyeliner.

The Vintage Bride Essentials....
Eyes: To achieve this timeless look you need to know a few basics.  In this era eye lids were fairly light.  And the bold winged out eyeliner was the only focus.  Just a medium shade eyeshadow slightly darker then your natural skin tone is put in the crease just to bring some depth.  Thick black lashes finish the eyes.

Lips: Bold red lips are a must!  You can go with any shade that will compliment your skin tone.  Red-berry, orange-red, blue-red, washed red, cherry red.  It really doesn't matter.  Use a complimentary lip liner to avoid any bleeding of the lipstick.

To complete the look have your hair stylist do finger waves with a modern twist to give you an updated version so that you don't look to "period".   Some of my favorite hair accessories are the bird cage veil, the Juliet Cap Veil, 50's shoulder length veils, or to simply put a large flower in your hair in lieu of a veil.

1.Bird cage veil from YJDesign $55.  Find it here.
2.Juliet Cap Veil from Glideshadows $138.00.  Find it here.
3.Hair Flower from Hair Comes the Bride $52.00.  Find it here.
4.Should Length 50's inspired veil from Tiffani Saxton Designs $62.00. Find it here.

To get the look (Shown in top photo)...
Eyes: MAC Cosmetics Shroom Eyeshadow all over the lid.
MAC eyeshadow in Grain in the crease.
MAC Fluideline in Blacktrack for the liner.

Lips: Mary Kay lipstick in Red.
Mary Kay liner in Rasberry.

Cheeks: Mary Kay blush in Strawberries and Cream.

So there are lots of ways to play up this "vintage" theme.  No matter what, it's a timeless and stunning look.  Have fun with it!  Red is a confident color, so show some confidence and know you are rocking this look.

Spring Trends - Metal Eyes and Bright Lips

One of my favorite trends for Spring is a carry over from the Fall.  But this version is a brighter "springier"version.  Combine neutral toned metal colors and finishes with a bright bold lip.  The hot lip colors for Spring are berries, corals and pinks.  But really you can't go wrong with any bright color right now!  Eyeshadows are just what it says - Metals.  Think bronze, copper, gold etc.  And the finish should be a subtle shimmer just like a precious metal would be when polished.  Pigments will have the best payoff for this effect.  Play down the cheeks with a coordinating hue for the lips but think on a more neutral and light version of the lip.  Black or dark brown eyeliner pair up nicely with the metal colors.

My Fave Metal Eyeshadow Colors:
MAC Cosmetics Pigments in Pink Bronze, Tan, Melon, Copper Sparkle, Chocolate Brown, and Old Golde.
Make Up Forever Diamond Powders in Bronze 4, and Smokey 15

My Fave Bright Lip Colors:
MAC Cosmetics lipsticks in Girl About Town, Lady Danger, Vegas Volt, Hot Gossip, Chatterbox, and Impassioned.
Make Up Forever Lipsticks in 36 Satin Fuchsia, 43 Moulin Rouge, 40 Satin Bright Orange

To Get the Look Shown Above:
Eyes:  MAC Melon Pigment
           MAC Fluideline in Black Trak
Red Cherry False Eyelashes in #42
Cheeks:  MAC Blush in Smile (discontinued)
Lips: MAC lipstick in Impassioned

Awaiting Spring Makeup Tutorial

With the weather being like it has been it's making me crazy for spring!   There are so many amazing spring trends this year.  And one of them is the still going bohemian style.  Add a metallic smokey eye and berry lips and you have your updated 2012 edition.  Read on to get the how to on Tatyana's easy to create look!

To get this look:

Makeup....

MAC eyeshadow in Antiqued all of the lid, crease and lower lash line.
MAC blush in Melba
MAC lipstick in Russian Red "stained" on the lips.  (To stain, apply lipstick with a lip brush and press your lips firmly together.  Blot with a tissue.  Don't use any lipliner.  This will give it a slightly bleeded effect, thus looking stained.)
Red Cherry #747S cut into demi lashes.

Hair....
Tatiana came with her hair in a bun slightly damp.  This caused the hair to have a natural curly look with out ever touching an iron.  She just gave it a little life by scrunching it with her hands right before the shoot.

Where to Buy....

Red Cherry Lashes www.madamemadeline.com

Valentines Day Inspired Makeup Tutorial

Get the how to video!  Scroll down!
With Valentines Day right around the corner I thought I would create a romantic look with a bold pink lip for you to try.  Bold and bright lips are all the rage for this spring and now is a great time to start implementing this look.  Berries and coral's are especially popular.   The cool toned pink lips really made my blue eyes POP!  Here are the steps and the makeup used:

Eyes:
Urban Decay eyeshadow in Sin (a pale shimmer pink) all over the lid concentrated.  And softly applied up to the brow bone. Also apply this color to the inner tear duct area and inner third of the lower lash line.
Urban Decay eyeshadow in Busted (a dark grey purple) in the outer V and brought down to the lower lash line in the outer third only.
Urban Decay YDK (a high shimer medium toned purple pink) over Urban Decay Busted that you just applied and bring it softly to the middle thrid of the eye.
*All of the Urban Decay eyeshadows are from the Naked 1 and 2 palettes.
Red Cherry #747M lashes cut in thirds (I have a tutorial coming out on this technique.  But for now do the normal application method of lashes.  To see a tutorial on how to do that here.)
Mary Kay Ultimate Mascara (black)
MAC Superslick Liquid Eyeliner in On the Hunt (darkest black).  Apply this over the strip lash line.

Face:
Temptu Airbrush foundation in 005 and 006.  Any foundation in your color will do.
MAC Plum Foolery (a warm purpley color with a hint of shimmer) on the cheeks.

Lips:
MAC Beet (a bright red pink) Lip Liner
MAC Girl About Town (a bright pink with a hint of purple) Lipstick
NYX Mega Shine Lipgloss in Beige (soft purple tinted pink), to turn the high voltage pink down a slight notch.

Where to buy:

Get this Look! Modern Day Marilyn Monroe Makeup

One of my most favorite shoots ever!  We used the Dolce and Gabbana with Scarlett Johansson ads as our inspiration to create these Marilyn Monroe - ish pictures.  Kristina Lindenburg was absolutely the best model for this.  She easily captured the subtle sexiness that we were going for!  With the right lighting and photography from Cole Garcia of Shin Kicker Studios and hair by Stacey Barton, Makeup by me, it was a winning combination!

An easy way to get this look:

Eyes-  This is a glamed up 50's version.  So we didn't go skimpy here.  We used MAC All that Glitters eyeshadow all over the lid and MAC Espresso eyeshadow in the outer v and the crease.  Add drama with bold black eyeliner and false eyelashes.

Lips- Go with a dark berry look.  Here we used MAC Lipstick in Rebel.

Face- Keep the foundation Matte looking and add a very soft berry pink blush.  We used Mary Kay Strawberry Cream blush.

Tip:  Make sure to fill in the brows for a slightly bold look.

Easy Soft Smokey Look for Brides!

While the guys were watching the Super Bowl downstairs, my girlfriends and I were upstairs playing around with some makeup looks.  This look I did on Kim is perfect for a smokey bridal eye.  It's not over powering or slutty.  Just soft and sultry.  The key to this look for a bride is to do a neutral colored lip to balance out the eye.  Here are the products we used and where so you can recreate this look yourself!  By the way I did the hair too!

Eyes:
MAC Paint Pot in Constructivist on the lid only, don't go above the crease.
MAC Mulch eyeshadow over the Paint pot
MAC Shroom eyeshadow just on the brow bone.
*Blend out the line with a blending brush with no color on it.
MAC Fluidline in Blacktrak for the liner
Red Cherry Lashes in 747S

Face:
Make Up Forever HD Foundation in 118
Mary Kay Concealer in Beige 1
MAC Melba blush on cheeks
E.L.F. Cosmetics HD powder to set.

Lips:
MAC Shy Girl Lipstick
MAC Subculture Lip Pencil

And there you have it!  A really simple easy to do Bridal Makeup Look!
Thanks Kim for being my model!  XOXO
